This was the 5th consecutive meeting of the Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club flash mob by scooter and motorbike riders in as many weeks, against Westminster City Councils introduction of charges to park in the borough.
Despite over 8000 formal objections to the stealth tax, Westminster Council have refused to listen. Two wheeled riders have been mounting a campaign for 20 months to draw attention to what has started in Westminster and could spread to the rest of the United Kingdom. The riders have also held many other on street protests, which are supported by bother MAG and the BMF.
So far the council have fined scooter and motorcycles riders in excess of £3 million in parking tickets alone, plus the millions of pounds generated from the parking tax. Bikers are taking the council to the High Court to try to expose the true level of deceit and arrogance shown towards a minority group. The council have accused two wheeled riders of simply adding to the central London congestion rather than admit that two wheeled transport is part of the solution, unlike every other European city.
Because Westminster are taxing scooters and bikes just like a car, the riders meet up every Wednesday morning and behave just like a car. They stop filtering through traffic, which brings central London to a complete standstill, creating gridlock for miles around. This is costing Westminster Council millions to defend, but yet they still refuse to listen to the overwhelming will of the people.
So far the council are facing three serious legal cases against them, as the No To Bike Parking Tax campaigners have exposed the dishonest tactics employed by the council. To find out more about what the scooter and motorbike riders are doing please visit http://www.notobikeparkingtax.com
