For Virginia residents – Can you please tell me the makes and models of scooters that are street legal – meaning you can ride them in traffic. I am not talking about the small scooters you can ride on sidewalks or on the side of the road. Also, for street legal scooters, do I have to have a motorcycle license or is a driver's license okay? Thanks for your help in advance.
In Virginia, anything under 50cc you don't need a motorcycle endorsement. But remember, they will only max out at around 30-40 MPH. Get your motorcycle licence, its not that big a deal. Then get something with at least a 125cc engine. You will appreciate the extra power.
Stay away from the Pep Boys scooters, they are infamous crap. Pep Boys is happy to sell them to you, but they won't service it.
Don't buy anything on the internet. You really need to go to a dealer, sit on them and find the right scooter which fits you to a tee!. Your best bet is to stick to the brand names.

I'm looking for ways to add a spare gas can to my scooter for day trips. Does anyone know of any scooter accesory shops in town that sells 1 to 2 gallon gas cans that can be added onto a scooter?

I am thinking of getting a 50cc scooter/ moped to commute within central London. I wear a suit to work. Could I ride a scooter from home to work wearing a suit and no protective clothing without the suit getting dirty?
You might not get especially dirty on a nice dry day, you would definitely need some waterproof kit for the wet weather (lets face it we have plenty of that!).
It would also be sensible to wear some protective kit like a bike jacket & cordura trousers, they will have built in body armour to protect elbows, shoulders & knees in the event that you take a spill, it's safer all round if you can get changed at work & commute in suitable bike clothing. Alternatively buy some oversized kit & wear it over your suit (bit hot in the summer though).
At the end of the day it's up to you & your attitude to your own personal safety.
